Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting held on 11 Aug 1978.

Aim Of NCC
The ‘Aims’ of the NCC laid out in 1988 have stood the test of time and continue to meet the requirements expected of it in the current socio–economic scenario of the country. The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate Kerala & Lakshadweep is one of the key regional formations of the NCC in India, responsible for organizing, managing, and supervising NCC activities across the state of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. Headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, the Directorate functions under the Ministry of Defence.

NCC came into existence in the state of Kerala on 01 Jun 1949 with the raising of 1 Travancore Bn in the erstwhile state of Travancore. It consisted two companies with a total strength of 10 Officers and 315 cadets and had its HQ at Trivandrum. Two more companies were added to this Bn in 1954. In 1955, a Medical Coy was raised in the Trivandrum Medical College. In 1952, on integration of the states of Travancore and Cochin, 2 Cochin Naval Units was raised at Cochin with 02 Officers and 60 Cadets. These units were under the administrative control of HQ 2 Circle Cadet Corps located at Madras.

An independent Circle HQ for Travancore-Cochin namely 16 Circle Cadet Corps was formed in 1955 and subsequently re-designated as HQ 11 Circle Cadet Corps. 2 Kerala Bn NCC, 3 Kerala Bn NCC, 4 Kerala Bn NCC were raised at Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode respectively under this HQ. An independent company was also raised at Palghat. By 1960, 1 Kerala Air Squadron NCC (Flying) and four technical units had also come into being. HQ 11 Circle was upgraded to the level of NCC Directorate (Kerala & Lakshadweep) on 29 Nov 1962. It has, under it command, 462 NCC officers (Incl ANOs) and 32,435 cadets.
At present, NCC Directorate (K&L) has five NCC Group Headquarters located at Trivandrum, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. The Directorate under its command has twenty-six Army Battalions, six Naval Units, two Air Squadrons, five girls battalion, One independent girls company, one independent Arty battery, one Sainik school company NCC and one R&V Squadron NCC. The total strength of the Directorate is 102 Officers, 1114 ANOs/Caretakers, 646 PI Staff, 3 WTLOs, 45 GCI and more than 96,500 NCC cadets
